Pool and network electricity use, hashrate and miner count distribution

0. Introduction
I was auditing and editing the script I used to calculate the results on the previous post in this series and found a significant error in the way I was calculating ASIC and FPGA efficiency. It did not have a significant impact on the overall results, but I did want to post an update with the correct results. Also, I've added charts for pool electricity use and also efficiency.

The assumptions I've used to create this data are outlined here.

1. Network: Per Ghps band user count, summed hashrate, and summed electricity.
5Ghps and lower hashrate users are starting to leave the network, balancing the increased electricity consumption of ASICMiner solo due to its increase in hashrate.







2. Pools: Per Ghps band user count, summed hashrate, and summed electricity.
Most pools are experiencing declines in the numbers of users in the < 5 Ghps band.






3. Efficiency, joules per Gh (eq. watts per Ghps)
I thought this would be an interesting chart to make, and it is. It shouldn't be construed as a value judgement on any pool; rather you can think of the efficiency as a guide to the proportion of different types of hashing tools. The higher the J/Gh, the less efficient the hashing entity is (pool, network or solominer), and the higher the proportion of CPUs and GPUs to ASICs.











4. The Survey is still up for a few days!

It's quite possible to make the network electricity use estimate much more accurate, and that's with a survey of miners.
